Mark J. Altschul is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Chicago office. Mark focuses his practice on complex business litigation, including commercial disputes involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, tax controversy issues and trade secret disputes. He is currently representing certain online travel companies in tax litigation pending in federal and state courts, in addition to administrative agencies, throughout the United States. Mark regularly appears in federal and state courts and has arbitrated before the American Arbitration Association. He regularly counsels clients concerning litigation and business strategy and dispute resolution. Mark was selected as a 2011 and 2010 Illinois Super Lawyer Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine.
Mark served as law clerk to the Honorable Norman C. Roettger, U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of Florida, as well as to the Honorable John J. O'Sullivan, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Florida. Mark also served as a summer extern to the Honorable Robert W. Gettleman, U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. Prior to attending law school, he worked as an Honors paralegal for the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division.
Mark is the author of "How Trial Technology Increases A Young Lawyer's Value To A Trial Team," ABA Business Torts Journal (Vol. 14 No. 1) 2006. While in law school, he was a member of the University of Illinois Law Review, which published his note: "Israel's Law of Return and the Debate of Altering, Repeating or Maintaining its Present Language." 2002 U. Ill. L. Rev. 1345.
