Randall J. Ortman is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Chicago office. He focuses his practice on general health law matters, including transactional and regulatory matters, as well as health information technology. Randall has experience with a variety of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, affiliation agreements, joint ventures, corporate restructuring, employment contracts and leases for hospital, health system and physician clients. He also provides guidance on regulatory issues, such as licensure and accreditation, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and compliance with Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute. Additionally, Randall counsels health information technology vendors and health care providers on website operations, software development, open source components, licensing and distribution agreements, data privacy and security and related implications of HIPAA and the HITECH Act.
Prior to joining McDermott, Randall worked for several years in the health care industry, most recently as the marketing/communications coordinator for a not-for-profit health system. He has also worked with a third-party medical billing company, focusing on relationship management and development of internal policies and procedures. Through his previous work experience, Randall has developed an appreciation for the unique business concerns of hospitals and other health care providers.
Randall received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, where he served as the criminology editor for the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing from Bowling Green State University.
Randall is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and National LGBT Bar Association. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago.
