Barry J. Quirke is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm's Chicago office. Barry focuses his practice on international corporate tax matters, including planning for corporate acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, spin-offs, joint ventures, intercompany transactions, leasing and cross-border financings.
Barry works predominantly and extensively with multinational corporations. He previously served as the chief tax officer of a NYSE traded mobile industrial equipment manufacturer with operations in over 160 countries. He has developed and implemented global effective tax rate planning strategies for both outbound and inbound multinational companies. Barry has worked on structuring multi-jurisdictional acquisitions, post-acquisition integration, internal reorganizations and joint ventures in Europe, Latin America and Asia/Pacific for industrial and financial service companies.
Barry is a frequent speaker on international tax topics for various professional organizations such as the Tax Executives Institute, the Chicago Tax Club, The Structured Finance Institute, MAPI, CITE and ATLAS. He was recognized by The Legal 500 United States as a leader in his field. Barry is currently chair of the International Fiscal Association’s (IFA) Midwest Region. He is an adjunct professor at the Northwestern University School of Law LLM Program, where he co-teaches advanced international taxation. Barry is admitted to the Illinois bar and is a member of the American Bar Association.
