Thomas A. McCann is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Chicago office. 

During law school, Tom was news editor of the Loyola Consumer Law Review.  He also served as an extern at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois and for the Honorable Sidney I. Schenkier, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Illinois.

Before joining McDermott, Tom worked as a newspaper and magazine journalist for numerous publications, including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Lawyer, the Kansas City Star and the Irish Times in Dublin, Ireland.  He is a two-time winner of the Chicago Bar Association’s Herman Kogan Award for legal reporting.  As a student at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Tom also helped to investigate and overturn the wrongful conviction of Anthony Porter, who had spent 16 years on Illinois’ Death Row. 

Tom is a member of the American Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association.  He is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
