Quentin “George” Heisler is senior counsel in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Chicago office. George previously served as the chair of the Firm’s Private Client Department from 1999 through 2006 and as Partner-In-Charge of the Firm’s Chicago office from 2006 through 2009. George focuses his practice on estate and business planning, with particular emphasis on the succession and transfer tax problems of families that control public and closely held companies.
George is actively engaged in the structuring of family business control and valuation devices, insurance planning to facilitate the retention of family businesses and multi-generational tax and estate planning for wealthy families. His clientele includes public and private corporations and their executives and shareholders, professionals, individual investors, trust beneficiaries, trusts, estates and foundations.
George has been recognized as “a leading lawyer in wealth management” at the national level in the 2006 to 2010 editions of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. In each of 2010 and 2011, Chambers USA described George as a “Senior Statesman” in its national survey of practitioners. In 2007, 2008 and 2009, George was selected by Worth magazine as one of the nation’s top 100 estate planning lawyers. George has also been named one of the top ten wills and estates lawyers in Illinois by Leading Lawyers Network and as an Illinois Super Lawyer in the area of estate planning and probate by Law & Politics.
George was a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (1992 – 2010) and has been selected as a trust and estates specialist for more than 15 years in The Best Lawyers in America.
George is a Trustee of the Shedd Aquarium and is a member of its Executive Committee. He also chairs the Gift Planning Advisory Committees of the Art Institute of Chicago and of the Shedd Aquarium and has served on the Planned Giving Advisory Council of Ravinia and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is a former President of the Harvard Club of Chicago and a former Chairman of the Winnetka Caucus in Winnetka, Illinois. George also served on the District 36 (Winnetka, Illinois) Board of Education.
George is a member of the bars of Illinois, Florida and the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Illinois.
