John A. Hankins is a partner at the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Orange County office.  John focuses his practice on client counseling on infringement and validity matters, the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and due diligence studies.

John has prepared and prosecuted patents in a range of technical areas encompassing computer software and architecture, computer security, telecommunications, hard disk drives, tape drives, storage area network, semiconductor processing semiconductor manufacturing devices, semiconductor memories, digital imaging and reproduction, networking architecture and software, automotive electronic controls and transmissions, automotive body structure and medical devices.

While at Rutgers School of Law-Newark, John served as a general editor of the Rutgers Technology and Computer Law Journal.  He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

John is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and California and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  He is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
