Nicole R. Sullivan, Ph.D.,* is a patent agent in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s New York office.  Nicole focuses her practice on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, bioengineering and molecular biology fields.  She assists with patent due diligence, opinion letters, patentability assessments, inter partes reexaminations and patent litigation.

Prior to joining McDermott, Nicole was a scientific advisor at an international patent law firm.  She was also a senior research scientist at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, where she worked in research and development in the Department of Pain’s Molecular Pharmacology Group.  In this position, she served as a program leader for two drug discovery targets.

After completing her doctoral work, where she was awarded a PhRMA Foundation pre-doctoral fellowship to examine agonist- and antagonist-induced desensitization of the 5-HT2A receptor, Nicole completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Loyola Medical School investigating the regulation of the 5-HT1A receptor by estrogen and fluoxetine.  Additionally, she served as a postdoctoral fellow at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, where she worked to determine the ectopic ligand binding site of the M1 muscarinic receptor using point and deletion mutational analysis. 

Nicole is currently pursuing a law degree at Fordham University School of Law.  She is a registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
