Cynthia Chen, Ph.D., is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Boston office.  She focuses her practice on patent prosecution and patent portfolio development and management in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.  Cynthia also has experience with preparing legal opinions, freedom to operate studies, due diligence and prior art searches.  Cynthia also has assisted clients in patent infringement litigation.

Cynthia is a member of the Order of the Coif.  While in law school at the University of California, Berkeley, she was a recipient of the Advocacy Award and the American Jurisprudence Award, and a two-time recipient of the Prosser Award.  Cynthia earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the California Institute of Technology, where she was a recipient of the Li Ming Scholarship.  She earned her B.S. in Biological Sciences and Biotechnology from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. 

Cynthia is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
