Tyler J. Woods is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Orange County office. As a member of the Trial Department, Tyler handles numerous forms of general civil litigation matters, although he currently concentrates his practice in employment litigation, commercial civil litigation, and intellectual property litigation.
Over the years, Tyler has represented employers in defending claims pertaining to employment discrimination, wrongful termination, sexual harassment, wage and hour disputes, breach of employment contracts, unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets. He represents clients in state courts, federal courts, and in administrative proceedings and investigations before such agencies as the California Employment Development Department, Department of Fair Employment and Housing and the California Department of Industrial Relations/Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. Tyler also routinely provides employers with counsel regarding employment policies and practices.
Tyler's civil litigation practice focuses on representing clients in business disputes, complex litigation, breach of contract litigation, property owners in unlawful detainer actions, and business and property owners in mechanic's lien proceedings. He has represented clients throughout California in both state and federal court litigation, and has participated in numerous mediations on behalf of clients.
Tyler's intellectual property practice involves representing clients in a large variety of high-tech industries including athletic technology, consumer electronics, and computer hardware and software. He has represented large international companies in patent litigation in federal courts throughout California.
Tyler is active in providing pro bono legal services to the community, including the litigation of a breach of contract and fraudulent representation claim in California State Court, wage and hour disputes before the California Employment Development Department and guardianship proceedings in Orange County.
Tyler is a member of the California and American Bar Associations and is admitted to practice in all state courts in California, and the Northern and Central district courts of California.
Prior to joining McDermott, Tyler spent several years in the Silicon Valley as a public relations advisor to executives in large hi-tech and start-up companies.
