Gale E. Chan is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office.  She focuses her practice on federal and international tax matters involving partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations.  Gale advises clients on state audit examinations involving challenges to complex partnership and limited liability company structures.  She is a member of the Firm’s Pass-Throughs Practice Group.

Gale has experience with bankruptcy related tax issues, nuclear decommissioning trust funds, tax accounting and change in method of accounting issues, captive insurance tax issues, and requesting Internal Revenue Service private letter rulings.  She drafts tax opinions involving reorganizations and redemptions, and regularly represents clients in examination before the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities. 

Gale has co-authored several articles for national tax conferences concerning current developments in partnership and real estate taxation.     

While in law school, Gale served the Honorable Mary Ellen Coster Williams as a Law Clerk Judicial Intern at the Court of Federal Claims.

Gale is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and California.
