Marc E. Brown is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and head of its patent procurement practice in the Firm’s Los Angeles office.  As a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, Marc focuses on computer hardware, software, the internet, electronics and biomedical devices.

Marc is an Adjunct Professor at Loyola Law School and teaches Patent Preparation, Prosecution and Counseling.  He managed one of the largest patent infringement lawsuits ever filed that was directed against $6 billion in sales of client/server computing technology.  He has been involved with high-technology intellectual property for over two decades and regularly represents clients in the procurement, litigation, evaluation and enforcement of high-technology patents, trademarks (including domain names), trade secrets and copyrights, with emphasis on computer hardware, software, the internet, electronics and biomedical devices.  Marc also performs due diligence studies, renders patentability and freedom to operate opinions, and negotiates and drafts software development and licensing agreements, as well as other technology-transfer agreements.

Marc served as Law Clerk and Technical Advisor to the United States Court of Claims (now called the United States Claims Court) in Washington, D.C.  This court decided major patent infringement lawsuits brought against the United States government.  He received his bachelor’s of science degree in electrical engineering with high honors; held an Advanced Class Amateur Radio Operator's License (WB6WRI); designed digital systems, analog circuitry, servo systems and R.F. equipment; and has written database, web scraping and other software programs.

Marc is admitted to practice before numerous federal and state courts, both at the trial and appellate level, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
