John A. Lee is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Silicon Valley office.  John focuses his practice on patent litigation, from the initial phases of a case through trial.

John regularly represents clients from a range of technology industries, including biopharmaceuticals, computer hardware, internet security, mobile computing, semiconductors and software applications.

Previously, John served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Faith Ireland of the Washington Supreme Court.

While in law school, John served as a technical editor for the Santa Clara Law Review.   In 2003, he placed fifth in the west regional competition of the Saul Lefkowitz Trademarks Moot Court.  Prior to entering law school, John earned his B.S. and B.A. from Seattle University, where he double-majored in biochemistry and humanities.

John is admitted to practice in California and Washington and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Representative Experience

  • Serves as counsel to a global leader in semiconductor technology in a multi-defendant action involving multiple patents relating to encryption technologies
  • Representing a leading manufacturer of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (LCD) panels in a multi-defendant action involving plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition technology for semiconductor fabrication
  • Represented a leading developer, manufacturer, and provider of medicines and human therapeutics in an infringement action involving multiple biopharmaceutical patents, in which the jury returned favorable verdicts for each of the patents in question (including willful infringement with regard to one of the patents)
  • Represented a major developer and manufacturer of bar code scanning and high-speed data capture solutions in a multi-patent case involving mobile computing technology
  • Represented a leading global technological and industrial company against several computer monitor manufacturing companies in infringement actions relating to computer displays
  • Represented a designer and manufacturer of standard high-performance integrated circuits in the successful settlement and agreement to a consent order in a patent infringement case involving voltage regulator circuits
  • Represented a global leader in internet content security in a successful patent infringement case involving anti-virus technology
