Marie A. Halpin is a partner in the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Chicago office. As a member of the Trial Department, her practice focuses on class actions, business disputes and complex commercial litigation.
Marie has extensive experience representing clients as plaintiffs and defendants in class actions and multi-party lawsuits in state and federal courts, involving RICO class actions, fraud, professional liability and contractual disputes. She has consulted with clients on business transactions and disputes and internal investigations. She has tried cases in federal and state court.
Marie represents clients in multi-district litigation, including the pending In re Managed Care Litigation. She represented a major bank in a lawsuit against the U.S. government related to the savings and loan “goodwill” litigation resulting in a $155 million damages award that was affirmed by the Federal Circuit.
Marie is admitted to the bars of the State of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (trial bar), the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois and the Court of Federal Claims. Marie is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh, Eleventh and Federal Circuits. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Seventh Circuit Bar Association, where she is a member of the board of governors and formerly served as the Secretary. She clerked for the Honorable Donald P. O’Connell, formerly the chief judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois. She is a Certified Public Accountant.
