Bobbi J. Bierhals is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Chicago office. Bobbi focuses her practice on tax and business planning for high net worth business owners and executives, including the structuring of tax-advantageous solutions for transferring wealth and closely-held business interests to younger generations. Bobbi counsels clients with regard to gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, succession planning, and charitable and probate administration.
In addition to estate planning, Bobbi advises her clients regarding the tax and property law implications of major life events, such as marriage, divorce, the birth of a child or grandchild, the sale of a business or the death of a family member. Bobbi also has substantial experience with family offices and closely-held businesses, including corporate governance, shareholders agreements, succession planning, family education programs and unique issues related to family-controlled, publicly-traded businesses. Her clientele includes public and private corporations and their executives and shareholders, family offices, trust beneficiaries, trustees, estates and not-for-profit organizations.
Bobbi has taught legal research and writing at Harvard Law School. She is admitted to practice in Illinois and Wisconsin. Bobbi is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Chicago Estate Planning Council.
