Dr. Vanessa Farmand is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater LLP based in its Düsseldorf office. She is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department as well as the European Competition Group of McDermott.

Vanessa's Intellectual Property practice covers unfair competition, European and German trademark, copyright, design right and patent law. She is particularly experienced in counseling as well as drafting and negotiating Intellectual Property transfer and licensing agreements and various agreements in the advertising industry. In addition, Vanessa counsels a broad number of international and national clients in Intellectual Property infringement and unfair competition matters, including representation before courts. A further focus of Vanessa's Intellectual Property practice is the coordination of Intellectual Property disputes in countries around the word.

In her antitrust and competition practice, Vanessa advises clients on German and European antitrust and competition law, including merger control, transaction structuring, restrictive agreements and abuse of a dominant position as well as antitrust compliance. She is in particular adept at counseling and representing international and national clients in merger control proceedings before the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) and the Higher Regional Court of Appeals (Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf). Vanessa's antitrust and competition practice further focuses on the antitrust and competition law aspects of supply and licensing agreements.

Vanessa's legal practise is topped off by advising in various commercial matters, in particular drafting and negotiating purchase, supply and service agreements as well as General Terms and Conditions, including dispute resolution.

Vanessa studied law at the University of Düsseldorf. She received her Dr. jur. in 2004 from the University of Münster.  During her legal clerkship she worked inter alia at major international law firms as well as at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in Geneva.

Vanessa is admitted to the German Bar and therefore to all German Regional Courts (Landgerichte) as well as all German Courts of Appeal (Oberlandesgerichte). She is member of the German Intellectual Property and Copyright Law Association (GRUR) and speaks German, English and French.
