Keith M. Stolte is a partner in the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Chicago office. As a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, Keith concentrates his practice on patent, trademark, copyright, unfair competition, false advertising and trade secret litigation and counseling. He has represented clients in diverse fields, including manufacturers of a wide variety of goods, health care providers, management consulting firms, financial services providers, universities, network and software developers, internet e-commerce businesses, and restaurant and entertainment companies.
Keith began his career in the intellectual property field as the Intellectual Property Administrator for the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company where he oversaw and maintained the company's portfolio of over 6,000 trademark applications and registrations and over 1,000 patents and patent applications worldwide, and counseled senior management and various company departments on trademark, patent and copyright matters.
Keith received his bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago in 1987. He received his law degree, magna cum laude, from John Marshall Law School in 1998, where he graduated second in his class. He was a member of the John Marshall Law Review Executive Board and Moot Court.
Keith is the author of numerous published articles relating to trademark and unfair competition law including: “Remedying Judicial Limitations on Trademark Remedies: An Accounting of Profits Should Not Require a Finding of Bad Faith,” 87 Trademark Reporter 271 (1997); “How Early Did Anglo-American Trademark Law Begin? An Answer to Schechter's Conundrum,” 8 Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal 505, reprinted, 88 Trademark Reporter 564 (1998); and “A Response to Jerome Gilson’s Call for an Overhaul of the Lanham Act,” 94 Trademark Reporter 1335 (Nov./Dec. 2004).
Keith is admitted to practice at the Illinois Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Sixth, Seventh and Ninth Circuits, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
