Cheng Tan is a senior associate and European trade mark attorney at the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery UK LLP. She is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, where her practice focuses on all aspects of procurement, protection and enforcement of trade marks and designs. Cheng has over 10 years experience in the practice of UK, European and International trade mark prosecution.
Cheng heads the UK and European trade mark prosecution practice from London and advises on worldwide trade mark and design management, protection and prosecution. Her experience includes advising on risk assessment, enforcement, commercial exploitation and portfolio management of all aspects of Intellectual Property rights. She also handles domain name registrations and disputes.
She is experienced in advising clients from a wide variety of industries including food and beverages, mining, sports, finance, technology, entertainment, computer and pharmaceutical.
Cheng is a practising solicitor of England and Wales. She is a qualified Barrister-at-Law of Middle Temple and an Advocate Solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia. She is a member of the International Trade Mark Association (INTA), an Associate Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA) and a Law Committee Member of the European Community Trademark Association (ECTA).
Cheng regularly contributes articles to various trade mark publications including Trade Mark World and World Trade Mark review. She was recently quoted in IP360 on trade marks and geographical indications. She is a contributory editor to the Trade Mark Law Course of Informa Professional Academy.
Cheng is mentioned for adding "depth to the group" in the inaugural World Trademark Review 1000 2011.
