Dr. Dirk Pohl is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater LLP where he heads the Munich office and the German Tax Practice. Dirk’s practice focuses on international tax law, tax litigation before tax courts and the German Supreme Tax Court (Bundesfinanzhof), integrated legal, tax and organization counseling of business enterprises as well as law of succession.
He was named a leading tax lawyer by Chambers Europe 2011, European Legal 500 2011 and also in the highly rated German JUVE Handbuch 2010/11. He is also listed as a leading tax litigator in the International Tax Review. 2010 he was appointed as a member of the Scientific Council of the German Tax Law Society.

Dirk has extensive experience in dealing with the tax issues of multinationals. He frequently lecturers on international tax law and has written numerous articles and several books on tax issues. He is a guest lecturer at the Bundesfinanzakademie (i.e. the federal university of the German tax administration) and the author of the Tax Management Portfolio “Business operations in Germany”. In 1997, Dirk received the Gerhard-Thoma Award from the Institute of Tax Advisors, Cologne for his Ph.D thesis.
Dirk is a member of the Munich bar for attorneys-at-law (Rechtsanwälte) and for tax advisors (Steuerberater).
