Margaret Mary Modde*, OSF, is a canon lawyer and a member of the Health Department in McDermott Will & Emery’s Chicago office. Sister Margaret has been consulted to work with numerous religious institutes of women and men and their sponsored ministries in the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia and Brazil. She has been a canonical consultant in a substantial number of hospital restructurings, mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, co-sponsorship arrangements, alienations, and religious institute planning.
Before joining the Firm, Sister Margaret served as an associate vice president of the Catholic Health Association in St. Louis, Missouri. She is a well known speaker at programs sponsored by The Catholic Health Association, The Canon Law Society of America, and at other gatherings of women and men religious across the country. She has published articles on church law and authored chapters for various publications dealing with canon law and the various aspects of health care.
Sister Margaret is a member of the Canon Law Society of America and has served as a member of the society’s Board of Directors. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the boards of several health care systems, hospitals, and a long-term care and an assisted living facility. She also serves on the Advisory Board for the Center for Catholic Health Care and Sponsorship at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and has served as part-time faculty at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Sister Margaret received her J.C.D. degree from The Catholic University of America in 1977, has done post-doctoral work, and holds a degree in business administration from the College of St. Theresa in Winona, Minnesota.
