William R. Burford is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm's Los Angeles office. He focuses his practice on tax and estate planning, probate and trust administration, and estate and trust controversies.
Bill regularly speaks to legal and non-legal groups on current issues in estate planning, trust administration and fiduciary litigation and has appeared on national television to discuss ways to address and avoid family inheritance disputes. Bill has also published articles on estate planning and related issues in a variety of publications, including the Tax Management Estates, Gifts and Trusts Journal, the California Trusts & Estates Quarterly, the Monthly Digest of Tax Articles, the Los Angeles Lawyer, the Los Angeles Business Journal, and the California Family Law News. An article that Bill co-authored contributed to a legislative revision study and to changes in California law.
Bill has been recognized by Law and Politics and the publishers of Los Angeles Magazine as a "Rising Star" in the area of estate planning and trusts.
While at New York University School of Law, Bill served as a Graduate Editor of the Tax Law Review.
Bill is admitted to the State Bar of California and is active in bar association events and continuing legal education.
