James W. Kim is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm's Chicago office. James represents health care providers, insurers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies on regulatory and policy issues related to the health industry. He has experience advising clients with Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues, fraud and abuse, Food and Drug Administration matters, including clinical trial reimbursement and negotiation, state and federal health-related licensure and certification matters and DoD/TRICARE regulations. James also has expertise with regard to European Union healthcare and life sciences regulatory issues as well as government contracting issues, including bid protests.
James is currently serving as the Health Law Chair for the American Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Division Health Law Committee, and has spoken on clinical trials noncompliance and Medicare as Secondary Payer issues. He is a regular author on healthcare and life sciences regulatory issues, health care policy and clinical trials reimbursement.
Prior to joining McDermott, James served as law clerk to Judge Christine Odell Cook Miller of the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C., and was employed by The September 11th Fund/United Way of New York City, where he managed the delivery of charitable relief services to families of victims of 9/11.
James is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the United States Court of Federal Claims.
