Philip Torbøl is a partner in the Brussels office of the international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery/Stanbrook LLP. He joined McDermott in 2005 together with his colleagues from Stanbrook & Hooper and is now a member of the Firm’s EU Regulatory practice and European Competition and Trade groups. His practice focuses on EU (and Danish) Competition law, State aid and EU aviation law. Philip has extensive experience advising clients in matters related to abuse of dominant position. He also has substantial experience representing clients in regulatory and legislative processes before the European Commission and the European Parliament.
Before joining Stanbrook & Hooper, Philip worked in the Copenhagen office of pan-Nordic law firm MAQS. He originally started his career as a press officer and a political assistant in the European Parliament in Brussels and during his studies was an Executive Committee Member of the European Commission’s Youth Forum.
Philip has written numerous articles and spoken on competition issues, including “What do EC Competition Rules Mean for Danish Companies?”, Association of Danish Businesses in Belgium, Brussels (September 2008).
Philip is a member of the Lawyers’ Society of Denmark and a member of the Brussels Bar.
Representative Experience
- Represented several European and U.S. companies in respect of EU investigations for abuse of dominant position – both on the side of the defendant and on that of the complainant
- Represented several European, U.S. and Japanese companies in cartel investigations
- Advised several dominant European companies and associations on their compliance obligations pursuant to European competition law
- Represented several European and non-European clients, including trade associations, in their efforts to influence the legislative processes in the EU institutions
- Represented complainants before the European Commission and the European Courts on State aids in the fields of transport and public services
