Lauren Handel is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s New York office.
Lauren represents clients in complex litigation primarily involving product liability and environmental claims. She also counsels clients on compliance with federal, state and local workplace safety and environmental regulations and represents clients in all aspects of OSHA enforcement actions. She has advised clients on environmental regulatory and liability issues associated with business transactions and conducted due diligence with respect to environmental, safety and health issues.

- Federal multi-district and state court litigation involving MTBE product liability claims
- Class action in Florida alleging that gasoline containing ethanol damaged boats
- Appeal and settlement of citations issued in connection with OSHA’s Petroleum Refinery Process Safety Management National Emphasis Program
- Challenge to Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation notices of violation and enforcement orders
- Advice on environmental liability and permit transfer requirements associated with transfers of manufacturing facilities in multiple states
- Multi-agency investigation of a six fatality explosion at a medical device component manufacturing plant in North Carolina
- OSHA process safety management program quality verification (PQV) inspection of a petroleum refinery in Delaware
Lauren authored a chapter on “Understanding and Contesting Citations” in the Occupational Safety and Health Law Handbook (Government Institutes 2008). In 2010, she received inMotion’s Commitment to Justice Award in recognition of her pro bono work on behalf of victims of domestic violence.
