Bryan James is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Silicon Valley office.  Bryan focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation.

During law school, Bryan was the chief articles editor for the Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal as well as a member of the Intellectual Property Law Society and the Asian Law Students Association.  Additionally, he served as a law clerk in the Office of the General Counsel at The University of Texas and a summer associate at McDermott.

Prior to law school, Bryan worked for The University of Texas at Austin as a senior systems analyst, developing mainframe and internet applications for students and administrative staff.  He also taught Latin and Roman History while in graduate school at The University of Texas.

Bryan earned his bachelor’s degree in classical literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz and his master’s degree in Latin from The University of Texas at Austin.  He earned his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law.

Bryan is admitted to practice in California.

  • Spansion LLC v. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., et al. (D. Del.) – Counsel for Spansion LLC in a multi-patent infringement lawsuit relating to flash memory technology.
  • Bedrock Computer Technologies LLC v. Softlayer Technologies, Inc., et al. (E.D. Tex.) – Represented Yahoo! Inc. in a multi-defendant patent infringement action relating to information storage systems.
  • Pitney Bowes Inc. et al. v. Zumbox, Inc. (C.D. Cal.) – Represented Zumbox Inc. in a patent infringement action involving paperless mail delivery technology.  
  • Realtime Data v. Packeteer et al. (E.D. Tex.) – Represented Blue Coat Systems, Inc., 7-Eleven, Inc., ABM Industries, Inc., and Build-a-Bear Workshop, Inc., in a multi-defendant patent infringement action involving data compression.
