Victoria E. Thavaseelan is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Boston office.   She is a member of the Trial Department and concentrates her practice in the areas of general commercial litigation and arbitration, government investigations and patent litigation.

Her recent experiences include   representation of a closely held corporation in litigation to compel the sale of a multi-million dollar asset; defense of a leading global medical products manufacturer at the London Court of International Arbitration against claims for alleged breach of contract and fraud brought by one of its distributors; and representation of a major United States healthcare company in connection with a four-year, multi-faceted federal healthcare fraud investigation.

While at McDermott, Victoria has also done extensive pro bono work.   She helped a wrongly-convicted person obtain a $500,000 award, the maximum recovery allowable under state law.  She has also represented a prisoner in civil rights litigation.

Prior to joining McDermott, Victoria worked as a summer associate in a law firm in St. Louis, Missouri, and as a legal intern for the Boston City Council.

Victoria earned her J.D. from Boston College Law School, graduating cum laude.   During law school, Victoria was a member of the Boston College International and Comparative Law Journal.   She was also a member of the European Union Law Moot Court Team and advanced with her team to compete in the regional competition in Dublin, Ireland.

Victoria earned a bachelor's degree, cum laude, in International Political Economy from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.  She also received a diploma in International Studies from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris, France, after a year of coursework.  Victoria is fluent in French.

Victoria is an active member of the Women's Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association.  Victoria is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.
