Victoria E. Thavaseelan is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Boston office.  She practices in the areas of commercial litigation, arbitration and government investigations.

Vicki’s recent experiences include representations of:

  • An ethanol manufacturer in a four-week arbitration regarding a commodity-based pricing formula dispute, resulting in a rejection of the claimant’s breach of contract, fraudulent inducement and mistake claims and a $230 million award in favor of the client on its breach of contract counterclaim.
  • Fiduciaries in a case challenging their administration of $150 million family trusts and business, resulting in a favorable verdict for clients on all issues, an award of legal fees and removal of the plaintiffs as trustee and beneficiary. 
  • A major U.S. health care company in connection with multi-year federal healthcare fraud investigations.
  • A major U.S. health care provider in class action arbitration in which the arbitration panel denied class certification.

Vicki has also done extensive pro bono work.  She helped a wrongly-convicted individual obtain the maximum recovery allowable under state law, and represented a prisoner in a three-week federal jury trial on civil rights claims.

Vicki earned her J.D. from Boston College Law School, graduating cum laude.  During law school, she was a member of the Boston College International and Comparative Law Review and of the European Union Law Moot Court Team.

Vicki earned a B.S., cum laude, from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, majoring in international political economics.  She also received a diploma in international studies from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris, France, after a year of coursework.  Vicki is fluent in French.

Vicki is an active member of the Women’s Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association.  She also serves on the Advisory Board for the Boston Debate League, a policy debate league for Boston Public School high school students.  She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.
