Vanessa Gilbreth is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm's Boston office.
Vanessa advises clients on a wide variety of state and federal laws that effect the workplace, including law governing wages and hours, fair employment practices, fair pay, disability, reasonable accommodations, discrimination, wrongful termination, family and medical leave, reductions in force, plant closings, background and credit investigations and more. She also helps employers draft and enforce non-competition, non-solicitation and non-disclosure agreements. Vanessa represents clients in litigation matters before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, as well as before state and federal courts.
Vanessa also practices traditional labor law, representing and counseling management in a variety of matters, including collective bargaining negotiations and unfair labor practice charges before the National Labor Relations Board. She advises clients on the National Labor Relations Act and assists troubled companies in the areas of labor and pension reorganizing under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code.
Vanessa earned her J.D. from Boston University School of law, where she graduated magna cum laude. In law school, she earned the American Bar Association Award for Excellence in the Study of Labor and Employment Law and won first place in the Boston University Client Counseling Competition. She also held a number of positions in law school organizations including President of the Shelter Legal Services Board and staff editor for the Boston University Law Review for 2007 and 2008.
Vanessa is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.
