Han (Jason) Yu is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Los Angeles office. He focuses his practice on intellectual property protection, rights clearance, licensing, internet and digital media, promotion & advertising, and entertainment law matters.
Jason counsels clients on various intellectual property protection, clearance and transactional matters, including: trademark, copyright & right of publicity clearances, protection and licensing; entertainment content licensing and distribution; internet, digital media and e-commerce agreements; merchandising agreements; television series sponsorship agreements; rights clearance for online distribution of audiovisual content and music; Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) safe harbor; online data privacy; advertising & marketing law compliance (including compliance with CAN-SPAM, telemarketing, and mobile marketing regulations); U.S. and international prize promotions (contests and sweepstakes); domain name disputes (including Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) actions); and IP due diligence in connection with corporate and financing transactions.
Jason’s prior law firm experience includes licensing, development and distribution agreements for the entertainment industry, as well as working with law firms in Beijing, China where he counseled U.S. and international clients on investing and doing business in Mainland China.
Jason earned his bachelor of law from China University of Political Science and Law and his L.L.M. in intellectual property from the University of California at Berkeley. He is admitted to practice in California and in Mainland China.
