James G. Rizzo is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Washington, D.C., office. Jim focuses his practice on the representation of clients involved in complex commercial litigation in state and federal court, as well as in mediation and arbitration. His litigation experience includes the areas of antitrust, business torts, contract disputes, False Claim Act, intellectual property, product liability, class actions, insurance and reinsurance. He has litigated cases in many jurisdictions, including Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia. He also has represented clients in patent infringement investigations before the United States International Trade Commission.
Representative Experience- Represented an online learning company during an investigation by the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice.
- Defended a computer software manufacturer in a class action involving allegations of conspiracy to defraud uninsured and underinsured motorists.
- Represented a plaintiff telecommunications company in a multi-million dollar fraud litigation.
- Represented an international textile manufacturer in a qui tam investigation by the Civil Division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice arising under the False Claims Act.
- Conducted an internal investigation of embezzlement by a senior executive of life sciences company.
- Represented a mutual insurance company in the evaluation and analysis of $4 billion insurance claim.
- Represented a financial services company in a predatory lending matter.
Jim is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Connecticut, New York, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, the District of Columbia, the District of Colorado, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
