Alexander V. Yampolsky* is a patent agent in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery based in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office. He is a member of the Firm’s Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department and concentrates on patent matters, including writing and prosecuting U.S. patent applications in the fields of computers, electronics, and telecommunications.

Alexander’s technical areas of expertise include computer and networking architecture, digital cellular technology, telephone communications systems, semiconductor memories, and medical devices. He has prepared multiple patent applications on business methods.

Alexander also provides counseling on patent-related issues in connection with Russia’s and Ukraine’s high technology commercialization, protecting Russia’s and Ukraine’s intellectual property in the United States, and U.S. intellectual property in Russia and Ukraine.

Alexander has counseled major U.S. corporations on intellectual property aspects of various technology transfer projects involving Russia and Ukraine. He also has counseled various Russian companies and governmental agencies on intellectual property matters, and has advised the Government of the Ukraine on technology transfer matters.

Before entering the legal profession, Alexander designed computer software and hardware and telecommunications networks for nine years.  His professional associations include the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.  He received a master’s degree in electronics.

Alexander received a diploma in patent law from the Moscow Patent Law School, Russian Federation.  He is a former patent attorney for the Russia’s Patent Agency.  Alexander is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
