Krista Vink Venegas is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Chicago office.  As a patent litigator in the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, she has particular experience in representing high-tech companies in complex patent litigation, including medical device, computer system and networking, as well as internet business method areas.   She also has substantial experience counseling academic institutions on life sciences patent portfolios.

Prior to beginning the practice of law, Krista conducted research at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, Department of Neurobiology.   She is the author or co-author of several published papers in the fields of molecular neuroendocrinology, neural development and behavior.   She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at UCLA.

Krista is a member of the bar of the state of California only, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, Western District of Wisconsin, Eastern District of Texas, Central District of California and the District of Colorado.

Representative Experience

  • Assisting lead counsel for plaintiff in recent jury victory asserting plaintiff’s patents against a computer networking industry competitor; and assisting in non-infringement motion for summary judgment granted in plaintiff’s favor (W.D. Wis. 2008)
  • Drafting successful motion for summary judgment due to inequitable conduct in favor of several defendants in the electronics industry (N.D. Ill. 2008)
  • Participating in settlement conference before magistrate judge which resulted in a favorable settlement of a patent infringement case brought by a competitor in the mechanical products industry (N.D. Ill. 2007)
  • Assisting in suit successfully settled for defendant sued for patent infringement by a non-practicing entity in the online business method industry (N.D. Ill. 2007)
