Brett Bachtell is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Chicago office. He focuses his practice on intellectual property counseling, prosecution and litigation.
Brett has represented clients before the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) and federal district courts involving a variety of technologies including semiconductor chip packaging, wireless communications, internet security, mechanical devices and business methods.
In addition to his litigation experience, Brett regularly prosecutes trademark applications and patent applications in a variety of technologies, concentrating on the electronic and computer arts. He has prosecution experience in the fields of computer hardware and software, digital and analog circuits, digital communications and medical devices.
Brett also has experience in patent and trademark counseling, including infringement opinions, domain name disputes, patentability opinions, due diligence investigations and analyses in connection with the sale or acquisition of business assets, confidentiality agreements and licensing agreements.
During law school Brett served as a law clerk for a full-service intellectual property law firm. Prior to attending law school, he held engineering positions with Motorola Communications System Research Lab.
Brett earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law where he received a Certificate in Intellectual Property, Patent Law. While in law school, he was also a recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Copyrights & Trademarks.
