Read Moore is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Chicago office. As a member of the Private Client Department, Read’s practice emphasizes all aspects of estate planning, estate and trust administration, and tax-exempt charitable organizations. He has had considerable experience in the international aspects of the estate planning practice, including foreign trusts, planning for foreigners residing in the United States and U.S. citizens residing abroad.
Read has done a substantial amount of work for migratory clients, including corporate executives moving from state-to-state and abroad, and is well acquainted with community property and income tax issues raised by these clients. He has also been involved in sophisticated planning for family businesses, including corporate recapitalizations, intrafamily sales and family partnerships.
Read is a fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a member of its International Estate Planning Committee, and often speaks and writes on estate planning topics for regional and national audiences. Read is also the editor of the ACTEC Journal and a member of the editorial board of Estate Planning magazine. Read was named an Illinois Super Lawyer in the area of estate planning & probate by Law & Politics.
Read is an active member of the bars in Illinois, California, Oregon and Washington; and has an extensive practice in all four states. While in law school, he was a member of the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review.
