Hiroshi Sheraton is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery based in the London office.   He focuses his practice on all aspects of intellectual property law with a particular emphasis on the life sciences sector.

He advises and represents clients in contentious patent, trade mark and other cases in the English Courts (where he has full rights of audience to present cases at the highest level), before other tribunals such as the European Patent Office and European Court of Justice and in arbitrations and mediations.  He has particular experience of cases involving several jurisdictions, both in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the US.  Representative cases include Teva v Sepracor (pharmaceutical patent litigation), Sportswear v Stonestyle (trade marks, parallel imports, Euro-defences), Document Security v European Central Bank (Europe-wide anti-counterfeiting patent litigation, the first patent case to be brought in the European Court of First Instance).

Hiroshi also has significant experience in specific issues affecting the life sciences industry such as the interface between IP competition and regulatory issues and advising on outsourcing and joint development agreements in this sector and managing disputes arising from them.  He originally trained as a medicinal chemist in industry and has a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology.  He has advised clients in the fields of microarray technology, enzymatic research tools, antibody production, microfluidics and medical devices.

He is also an associate member of CIPA - the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys. 

Hiroshi is recognised in the inaugural World Trademark Review 1000 2011 for "his ability to coordinate international cases", IAM Patent Litigation 250 - The Worlds Leading Patent Litigators notes Hiroshi's particular focus on the life sciences and describes him as "A solid and client-focussed litigator who is on the rise". He recognised as a leader in his field in Chambers UK 2012 he is acknowledged for having forged an excellent reputation through his handling of pan-European patent litigation and his team is described as “great to work with: responsive, solid and pragmatic”. Legal 500 2011 describes the team as ‘absolutely superb’ for pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. He was featured in the 2011 edition of the PLC Which Lawyer? Awards.
