William (Bill) Gaede is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm's Silicon Valley office. Bill co-chairs the Firm’s Life Sciences & Medical Devices group. He also serves as hiring partner for the Silicon Valley office.
Bill focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation in the life sciences and medical device industries. Bill’s practice further focuses on risk management for companies addressing freedom to operate issues. He serves as lead counsel for a wide range of companies and research institutes and has experience with genomics, proteomics, small molecule and protein therapeutics, antibodies, diagnostics, formulations and devices. In addition to Bill’s jury trial experience, he has also argued before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

Bill served as temporary Deputy District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco. While in law school, Bill was elected to the Thurston Society and served on the Hastings Moot Court Board. Additionally, Bill served as an extern to the Honorable Stanley A. Weigel of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.
