Babak Akhlaghi is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office. He focuses his practice on patent prosecution and patent licensing.
Babak has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the field of electrical and mechanical arts, including computer software, internet-driven technologies, semiconductor structures, mechanical designs, communications and signal processing, and network system and security. Additionally, Babak has been involved in counseling clients with patent licensing negotiations and has drafted a patent licensing agreement. Babak has also received extensive training on drafting opinion letters on validity and infringements and has counseled clients on patent validity, enforceability and infringement studies.
Babak’s previous technical experience includes serving as a radio frequency technician, as well as a designer of a non-tunable AM receiver and builder of a 600bps modem.
Babak earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland, magna cum laude, where he ranked first in the graduating class. While in law school, Babak served as an article editor for the Houston Business & Tax Law Journal.
Babak is a certified mediator and has mediated lawsuits in the local courts of Houston, Texas. He is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
