Reed T. Aljian is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, based in the Firm’s Orange Country office. He is a member of the Firm’s Trial Department and the Electronic Data Management, Privacy & Discovery Group.
Reed’s practice is primarily focused on class action and other complex or multidistrict business litigation. He has significant experience in a wide range of legal issues, including securities, intellectual property, consumer credit protection laws, labor and employment (including employment benefits litigation and counseling under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA)), and insurance coverage. He has experience in all phases of litigation, representing a diverse client base as both plaintiff and defendant through all stages of litigation.
Reed also is actively involved in pro bono efforts in Los Angeles and Orange County, primarily representing individuals in real and personal property litigation matters. He is a member of the State Bar of California’s Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services (the State Bar’s pro bono committee), as well as being a member of the Firm’s pro bono committee. Further, he was a member of the trial team that ultimately secured the single largest award ever for a Public Counsel pro bono consumer case. For his efforts representing that client, Public Counsel recognized Reed as its 2005 Consumer Law Project Volunteer of the Year.
Prior to joining the Firm, Reed was a member of a large international law firm in Los Angeles, where he was a member of the general litigation and trial practices group.
During law school, Reed worked as a law clerk in the Enforcement Division of the Securities & Exchange Commission in its Pacific Regional Office and as a judicial extern for the Honorable Dickran Tevrizian, Jr., United States District Court Judge, Central District of California.
Prior to law school, Reed worked for several years in sales, marketing, and advertising for minor league baseball teams in Arizona and Texas. He also played professional baseball in the California Angels baseball organization. A catcher, Reed was a member of the Northwest League Champion Boise Hawks in Boise, Idaho and the Lake Elsinore Storm in Lake Elsinore, California.
Reed is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and all California courts. He is also a member of a number of legal organizations, including the Federal, Los Angeles, and Orange County Bar Associations.
