Laura McLane is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Boston office.
Laura represents clients in securities, healthcare and other government enforcement matters, both civil and criminal. She also represents clients in professional liability cases, products liability cases, and complex commercial disputes involving both the high-tech and industrial sectors, and has conducted a number of internal investigations for clients.
Representative Matters:
- Represents a major U.S. healthcare provider in government investigations and qui tam litigation relating to the False Claims Act.
- Regularly represents individual and corporate clients in securities fraud investigations and civil enforcement actions brought by the SEC.
- Represented a former employee of a major industrial company in connection with an SEC investigation arising out of revenue recognition allegations. After filing a Wells submission on behalf of our client, the SEC declined to pursue charges.
- Represented the special litigation committee of the board of directors of a pharmaceutical company in connection with shareholder allegations of securities fraud.
- Conducted internal investigation for a Fortune 100 Company regarding allegations of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations in the Middle East.
- Won a federal court challenge to a FINRA arbitration subpoena, resulting in a ruling that FINRA arbitrators do not have the power to issue discovery subpoenas to non-parties.
- Represented a government contractor in a civil suit brought by the United States seeking damages under the False Claims Act and the Anti-Kickback Act of 1986.
- Successfully defended a law firm in connection with a threatened claim of legal malpractice; after several months, potential plaintiff was persuaded not to file a claim.
- Defended a major aircraft engine manufacturer in litigation arising out of a Paris accident, involving extensive foreign discovery under the Hague Convention, and obtained a favorable settlement.
Laura has also represented clients in appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the Massachusetts Appeals Court.
Laura has been named one of Massachusetts’ “Rising Star” Super Lawyers for multiple years.
Laura is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association. She is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
