Elisabeth (Bess) Malis is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Los Angeles office. Bess focuses her practice on trademark, copyright, right of publicity, promotion and advertising, as well as entertainment law matters.
Bess advises clients on a variety of intellectual property transactional matters including: trademark/copyright/right of publicity clearance, protection and licensing; contests and sweepstakes; recovery of domain names through UDRP actions; licensing and outsourcing agreements involving information technology; and IP due diligence in connection with corporate transactions such as mergers and acquisitions. Bess also has experience representing clients in intellectual property litigation matters.
Bess is a member of the Los Angeles pro bono committee and a regular contributor to McDermott’s IP Update.
Prior to working at McDermott, Bess worked for record labels in Nashville and Los Angeles. While in law school, Bess was editor in chief of the Loyola of Los Angeles Entertainment Law Review.
Bess earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Notre Dame and her J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.
Bess is admitted to practice in California.
