Rita Weeks is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, and is based in the Firm's Washington, D.C. office.  She focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation, specializing in trademark, trade dress and unfair competition litigation, copyright and false advertising litigation, and domain name disputes. 

In addition, Rita regularly counsels clients on various aspects of internet commerce such as co-branding, internet surveillance and enforcement, and privacy protection.  Rita also has experience reviewing proposed advertising, sweepstakes, contests and other promotions.  In order to acquire and protect client rights, Rita assists clients with the filing and prosecution of U.S. and foreign trademark applications and U.S. copyright registrations.

Rita earned her LL.M. degree in intellectual property law from New York University School of Law.  During her LL.M. studies, Rita worked as a law clerk for the Federal Trade Commission. 

Rita earned her law degree from Boston University School of Law, receiving honors in the intellectual property law concentration.  During law school, Rita worked in the Intellectual Property Department of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, where she worked on matters including trademark prosecution, trademark and copyright infringement, internet enforcement and domain name dispute resolution. 

Rita is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia, as well as before the district courts of the Northern District of California, the Central District of California, the Eastern District of California, the Southern District of California and the Eastern District of Texas.  She is also a member of the International Trademark Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Bar Association’s Intellectual Property section.
