Tomoki (Tom) Tanida is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm's Washington, D.C. office. He focuses his practice on patent procurement and client counseling on infringement and validity.
Tom has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as well as foreign patent offices, in areas of technology including semiconductor electronics, analog circuits, telecommunication systems and computer software applications. He has performed patent infringement and validity analysis for domestic and foreign corporations. Tom also has experience handling technology export control issues.
Prior to joining the Firm, Tom worked as a registered patent attorney in Japan. He has extensive experience with patent and trademark prosecution for Japanese and international clients before the Japan Patent Office. In relation to his prosecution practice, he has counseled clients on all aspects of intellectual property law in Japan, including copyright and unfair competition matters. He has also assisted clients on Japanese and international patent and trademark litigation.
To date, he has received bachelor degrees in law, electrical engineering and chemistry.
Tom is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Japan Patent Office. He is also admitted to practice in the state of New York and the District of Columbia. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Japan Patent Attorneys Association.
