Victor Behar*, Ph.D., is a patent agent in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Orange County office.  He focuses his current practice on patent prosecution in the chemical arts including in the fields of small molecule and biological pharmaceuticals, applied chemical nanotechnology and material science, and diagnostic tools.  His prior prosecution experience includes oilfield technologies, including drilling mud formulations, drill bit coatings, and LWD devices; biomedical devices; dental formulations; biologics; applied bacteriophage technology; polymer preparation and polymer drug delivery; pharmaceuticals; cement blends; nanocomposite materials; nanotechnology; solar cell technology; and food science.

While Victor primarily works in patent prosecution, he has also had experience in litigation support conducting prior art searches and assisting in the preparation of invalidity and infringement contentions.  He has extensive experience performing searches for freedom to operate and patentability opinions.

Prior to joining McDermott, Victor was an assistant professor of chemistry at William Marsh Rice University where he ran an NIH-funded graduate research program in synthetic organic chemistry.  He served as a postdoctoral fellow under Nobel Laureate E.J. Corey at Harvard University and received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Columbia University.  Victor earned his M.S. in chemistry from Yale University and his B.S. in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Victor is a member of the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Chemical Society.  He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
