McDermott Will & Emery's three diversity committees ensure that our recruitment efforts at the law school and lateral level reflect the Firm's commitment to creating a diverse workforce in an inclusive environment.

Our Recruiting Committee members build relationships with law school affinity group leaders and placement office staff to Summer Associate Diversitymake them aware of the Firm's desire to recruit a diverse summer associate class.  Based on National Association of Law Placement data, for the past three years, our diverse summer associate averages have surpassed our peer firms—35 percent of our summer associates were minority law students (peer firm averages were 26 percent) and 51 percent were women (peer firm averages were 49 percent).

McDermott uses events held by diverse and minority bar associations for recruiting experienced professionals.  Our Recruiting Committee members and others attend conferences such as the Lavender Law Conference, and the Minority Corporate Counsel's CLE Expo, as well as meetings of the National Association of Women Lawyers and the National Bar Association.  At all of these events, members seek to promote McDermott and recruit seasoned lawyers.
