Our Life Sciences & Medical Devices Practice Group provides fully integrated, multidisciplinary legal services to the life sciences industry. Our group of 135+ lawyers, patent agents and scientific advisors provides the full range of legal services required by life sciences companies, regardless of their stage of development. We understand the specific needs of companies in this industry and can significantly support in-house counsel through various stages of their products and services life cycle.
Our clients range in size from the world’s largest pharmaceutical and medical device companies to start-ups, as well as companies in academic medical research centers, universities, investment banking and venture capital firms.
Our Life Sciences & Medical Devices Practice Group members regularly provide service in the areas of intellectual property; corporate and corporate finance; products regulation and reimbursement; legislative and government regulations, including OSHA, environmental and food and agriculture; health regulatory; mass tort; and product liability; securities; executive compensation; and labor/employment; tax and international trade.
Our breath and depth of expertise include technical knowledge in virtually all fields of life sciences and biotechnology, with particular strength in antisense, autoimmune therapies, bioinformatics, biosensors, biotechnology cancer therapies, combinatorial chemistry, flow cytomerty, genetic engineering, gene therapy, genomics, mass spectrometry, medical devices, medicinal chemistry, microarray technology, microfluidics, molecular evolution, nucleic acid and peptide chemistry, phage display, polymer chemistry, proteomics, stem cells and transgenic animals.
Many of our lawyers hold advanced scientific degrees and Ph.D.s and have practical experience in the life sciences fields as molecular biologists, biochemists, chemical engineers, pharmaceutical research scientists and regulatory managers. Additionally, many of the lawyers in the Intellectual, Media & Technology Department are registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and includes professionals with technical knowledge in virtually all fields of life sciences.
Our lawyers are experienced in litigating life sciences cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. Federal District Courts and state courts, and European national courts and arbitration forums. We have one of the largest product liability and commercial litigation groups in the United States, with particular experience with multi-district, multi-plaintiff medico-pharmaceutical litigation and genetically modified organism litigation, as well as with cases involving theophylline, asbestos, blood products, tobacco and medical devices.
