Lydia Kelley was quoted in the May 19 issue of The National Law Journal about how law firms rooted in the United States are increasingly tapping Master of Law degree programs to recruit foreign lawyers for building out their international networks.  Specifically, the Firm is looking this year for students that it could place in its German offices in Munich and Düsseldorf, Ms. Kelley said.  "As we're looking for great talent in Europe, there is an increasing desire to have students who have received LL.M. degrees at U.S. law schools," Ms. Kelley said.

Lydia Kelley was quoted in the September 28 issue of the Boston Business Journal about how more law school graduates are accepting jobs in other industries rather than joining law firms.  "We do see biotechs and investment banks looking at law students, but you also have law students looking," said Ms. Kelley.  "You've got a generation of law students who want to look at all their options, whereas as recently as a few years ago many students would be looking primarily at law firms," she added.

Lydia Kelley was quoted in the February issue of the Chicago Lawyer in an article concerning the challenges law firms face retaining women and minorities.  Ms. Kelley explains the benefits a diverse team gives a law firm.  "I'm working on a large transaction right now where this is the case. Clients have said that when you have a bet-the-company case, or a huge transaction, particularly in litigation matters, where you may be dealing with a jury, you want to have different perspectives. Let's see what a women attorney has to say, or a minority attorney may come up with – a different angle, different life experiences, different backgrounds, different thought processes," Ms. Kelley said.

Lydia Kelley was quoted extensively in the May 31 issue of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. The article, "'Development time' yields job satisfaction," reported on McDermott Will & Emery implementing a firm-wide "Professional Development" account for associates. The program gives first and second year associates 75 hours that count toward the billables requirement to be used fro professional development experiences. The associates have an opportunity to see first-hand how experienced lawyers handle certain situations. Because the hours count toward the billables requirement for compensation purposes, "The associate can get this experience without having to take a day off, basically," commented Ms. Kelley.
