Veronica Pinotti was quoted in the October 7 issue of Global Competition Review in an article which covers the departure of Alberto Heimler, director of research and international relations, from Italy's Antitrust Authority.  "He has been working with the authority since 1991, only one year after the Italian antitrust legislation was adopted," Ms. Pinotti said.  "He has therefore contributed, since the very beginning, to the development of competition law principles in the Italian market."  His academic interests were apparent in his role in charge of research at the authority, so it is "no surprise" that he has decided to make the move, she said.

Veronica Pinotti was quoted in the 21 April 2008 issue of Global Competition Review in relation to Italy's investigation into football rights.  Ms. Pinotti said the investigation was prompted by the Football League's refusal to allow individual match broadcasting sales by second division clubs.  "This may amount to an anti-competitive agreement aimed at limiting the clubs' freedom to individually sell their rights, to the detriment of final customers, who are not allowed to watch their favorite team's football match," she commented.  Ms. Pinotti continued, "The selling of sports broadcasting rights is a very hot topic at the moment, with reviews being carried out by the German and Spanish competition authorities, and following the exemption granted by the European Commission in relation to UEFA Champions League."
