Two Lawyers Join Firm To Establish Miami Tax Practice
MIAMI (August 5, 2004) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Philip Tingle and Justin Mead have joined the Firm as members of the Tax Department based in the Miami office. Mr. Tingle joins the Firm as a partner and Mr. Mead joins as an associate.
Mr. Tingle concentrates his practice in the electric and gas industries and brings valuable insight to energy-related tax issues. His experience includes working with major utilities and independent power producers on partnership and corporate tax issues, restructurings and reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and other tax planning issues, including contract restructurings. Mr. Tingle also regularly provides tax advice on contribution in aid of construction, normalization, stranded costs, renewable energy credits, regional transmission organizations and other power industry topics.
As a member of the Firm’s Tax and Energy Departments, Mr. Mead focuses his practice on the federal income tax issues faced by large corporations (with an emphasis on energy corporations), including tax planning associated with reorganizations, acquisitions and dispositions, including spinoffs. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Mead was an electrical engineer at an aerospace company in which he worked on programs for developing tests for complex electronic boards used in the Space Shuttle, the B/2 the F/18, the Navy's communications equipment and the Army's Radar System.

"Philip and Justin, who will be working closely with our tax lawyers in Washington, D.C., will lead our tax efforts in Miami in coordination with our international tax practice that spans from California to Europe."
Mr. Tingle earned his LL.M. and J.D. from the University of Florida and his B.S.M. from Tulane University. He is admitted to practice in Florida. Mr. Mead earned his LL.M., J.D. and MBA from the University of Florida and his B.S.E in electrical engineering from Duke University. He is admitted to practice in Florida.

Messrs. Tingle and Mead's arrival to the Miami office follows the recent arrival of IP partner Simona Levi-Minzi who joined the office in May. Dr. Levi-Minzi, former senior IP counsel for a leading pharmaceutical company, focuses her practice on patent, trademark, copyright procurement and management, intellectual property counseling, technology transactions and litigation. Dr. Levi-Minzi’s major areas of practice involve innovations in the areas of molecular biology, genetic engineering, protein chemistry, pharmacology and immunology. Her practice includes established and emerging organizations, venture capital start-up, research and academic institutions.
