Terrence P. McMahon Elected to the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center Board of Trustees
PALO ALTO, CA (September 2, 2010) — In recognition of his standing as a world-class intellectual property practitioner, McDermott Will & Emery partner, Terrence P. McMahon, has been elected to the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC) Board of Trustees. Mr. McMahon will serve a five-year term beginning in 2010 through 2015.
MIPLC is closely affiliated with four partners: the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law, the University of Augsburg, the Technische Universität München, and The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. (USA). The aim of the MIPLC Board of Trustees is to promote the relationship between the Center and the general public interested in education and research in Intellectual Property and adjacent areas.
The Board of Trustees is composed of representatives from politics, business, sciences, media, and other circles who have special ties to the research concerns of the MIPLC or who can substantially contribute to its support. Board of Trustees members are drawn from such organizations as Siemens AG, the European Patent Office, IP for Sustainable Energy Ventures, and BMW, and are appointed by the Max Planck Society in consultation with the MIPLC Managing Board.
“My relationship with MIPLC began last year when I was asked to lecture at the law school. I am honored to be invited back, this time to serve on the Board of Trustees and join the world’s most distinguished faculty, staff and students in the study and advancement of IP law,” said Mr. McMahon, partner in the Firm’s global intellectual property practice and member of the Executive Committee.
Jeffrey E. Stone, Co-Chair of McDermott Will & Emery, extended his congratulations to Mr. McMahon, “We are delighted that Terry has been asked to join this board consisting of some of the most prestigious members of the IP community. The Firm is delighted that Terry has accepted this invitation to become a member.”
For more than 30 years Mr. McMahon has focused his practice on patent, copyright, trade secret, trade dress, trademark and other high stakes, “bet the company” litigation. He represents some of the world’s top technology companies including Aristocrat Technologies, Creative Labs, Extreme Networks, Logitech, Qualcomm and Seagate Technology.
Mr. McMahon has been widely recognized by the legal and business communities, having been named a worldwide leader of IP in Chambers Global (2001-2009), recognized by Chambers USA (2004-2010), and recognized in the 2011 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for IP.
