McDermott Will & Emery Announces New Director of Legislative Affairs

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 11, 2010) — The international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that W. Kam Quarles has joined the Firm as the Director of Legislative Affairs in the Washington, D.C., office.  At McDermott he will focus on a broad range of Legislative and Executive Branch issues including agricultural production and marketing, food safety, sustainability, environmental, International trade/supply chain and phytosanitary issues.

Prior to joining McDermott, Mr. Quarles was the vice president for government relations and legislative affairs at the United Fresh Produce Association.  In this role, he developed the fresh produce industry’s response to climate change legislation, and served as the lead lobbyist on supply chain, labor and trade issues.  Mr. Quarles also served as the vice president for government affairs at the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, where he oversaw trade policy, specialty crops, immigration, transportation and related issues for the council.

Additionally, Mr. Quarles served as the managing director of the Washington, D.C. office for Sunkist Growers, the world’s largest citrus marketing organization.  He has also served as a staff member in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives and for a public agency managing a U.S. Port of Entry/Foreign Trade Zone in California.  He is the immediate past president of the Agribusiness Club of Washington, D.C., and former treasurer of the Minor Crop Farmer Alliance.
