Partner Receives Unsung Heroine Award
CHICAGO — McDermott Will & Emery partner Andrea Kramer was selected by Cook County's 10th District as this year’s Unsung Heroine. In recognition of her community service, including her work and dedication to The Women’s Treatment Center (TWTC) and extensive support of people in need outside of organized philanthropic programs, a representative of Cook County Commissioner Mike Quiqley's office presented the award.
TWTC, based in Chicago, provides a variety of alcohol and substance abuse treatment services to pregnant women with small children, eliminating the common treatment barriers such women typically face. TWTC is one of the few substance abuse programs in the nation that can accommodate children while their mothers are undergoing residential treatment, making TWTC uniquely responsive to the needs of chemically dependent mothers and their children. Ms. Kramer has been serving as a founding TWTC board member since 1989, and as Chairperson of the board since January 1996. Beyond her board activities, Ms. Kramer’s dedication and contributions to TWTC is evidenced by her personal involvement in TWTC fundraising activities, including the establishment of charity benefits on behalf of TWTC. Ms. Kramer has also successfully developed and implemented volunteer opportunities at TWTC for community service groups (including the Junior League of Chicago) and interested individuals (including middle school volunteers reading to toddlers at TWTC after school). Ms. Kramer is currently working with a Chicago private school to include TWTC in the school’s organized community service activities.
Andrea Kramer, a partner resident in the Firm’s Chicago office, is the head of MWE’s Financial Products, Trading, and Derivatives Group, and, with two of her partners, heads the Firm's Energy Services Group. Ms. Kramer is a member of the Firm’s Management Committee and co-chairs the Firm’s Gender Diversity Committee. She focuses her practice on the design, taxation, regulation, and documentation of derivative financial products. Her client projects include tax and regulatory counseling and defense, legislative matters, documentation of customized over-the-counter products, derivatives policies and procedures, and bankruptcy and creditor’s rights issues. She advises financial service firms and a wide range of multinational businesses on use and risk management applications of financial products. Ms. Kramer also represents, insurance companies, energy companies and public utilities, proprietary trading firms, and high net worth clients in the full range of derivatives trading, legal, and tax matters.
