McDermott Will & Emery Volunteers Support United Way Projects
CHICAGO (August 18, 2009) — More than 30 employees from the Chicago office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP recently participated in three different “Day of Caring” projects sponsored by the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago.
In late July, attorneys and staff worked with children at Hull House, a local day care center, as well as at the ABC Youth Center. Employees spent the morning reading and playing with groups of about 25 children at each facility. Earlier this month, employees prepared and served breakfast to approximately 30 low-income citizens at the Inspiration Café, also in Chicago.
“McDermott is especially grateful to partner with the United Way to provide much needed outreach and assistance to the community during these difficult times," said Nancy G. Ross, a partner in the Firm's Trial Department and chair of the Firm's United Way Law Partnership Campaign.
“It was purely amazing,” said Lisa Winer, the Firm’s human resources coordinator. “To see the look on a child’s face is just priceless. I’m excited to be working with the United Way.”
McDermott employees participated in an earlier “Day of Caring” in June, where they bagged produce and handed it out to the indigent. Ms. Winer said that she’s received many positive responses from employees. “It’s great for people to see what the United Way does.”
Ms. Winer said the Firm will soon launch a fundraising drive for the United Way.
